今回は、エンティティの本質に近づきたいと思います。  
さしあたって、簡単にエンティティを説明します。

## エンティティとは

エンティティとは、データのかたまりです  
企業が情報システムを構築するにあたって、データとして管理したい対象がエンティティです。  
製造業であれば、組織、取引先、商品、設備、勘定科目、在庫、月次販売計画、受注、出荷、請求、入金、などが典型的なエンティティです。

 

## エンティティとオブジェクトの違い

オブジェクト指向のオブジェクトと異なるのは、エンティティはデータである点です。  
ソフトウェアの世界では、データは受動的で自分から何かを働きかけることがありません。一方、オブジェクトは、自分が主体となり、振る舞いを持ちます。

 

## エンティティはいくつかの意味で使われる

文脈によってエンティティはいくつかの意味で使われます。  
第１は、実世界の管理対象です。データモデル機能をつかってデータモデル図に写し取る前の「もの」「こと」を指します。  
第２は、データモデル機能をつかって写し取った後のデータのかたまりです。ただし、厳密に言えば、さらにタイプとオカレンスを分け、エンティティタイプ、エンティティオカレンスと言うことがあります。
